Bello El-Rufai: ICPC Blocked Doctor’s Visit, Family Food Delivery To My Father

The son of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of violating his father’s constitutional rights by preventing a doctor from seeing him and turning away his wife when she brought his evening meal.
In a press release issued on 15 May 2026, Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the Member of the House of Representatives for Kaduna North Federal Constituency and Chairman of the Committee on Banking Regulations, described two incidents that occurred that day as “an outright assault on the rule of law”.
According to the statement, at about 3pm the former governor’s personal doctor visited the ICPC to discuss the results of recent medical tests. Officials at the agency refused to allow the doctor access, insisting that written permission from the ICPC Chairman was required. Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai said this directly contravenes a court order granting his father unrestricted access to his doctors.
Later the same evening, at around 7pm, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s wife, Aunty Aichatou, arrived with his evening meal in line with her usual practice. She was turned away by ICPC personnel, who stated they had orders not to permit food deliveries after 6:30pm.
Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai condemned both actions, saying: “These acts are an outright assault on the rule of law and a clear violation of our father’s constitutional and human rights. No lawful detention justifies denying medical access or refusing basic family care based on an arbitrary curfew fixed by the ICPC.”
He added that the family would “no longer accept this pattern of intimidation dressed up as protocol” and demanded that the ICPC fully respect all of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s constitutional rights and “abide by the very laws it claims to enforce”.
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai remains in ICPC custody. As of this morning, the commission had not issued a public response to the allegations.

EFCC: Adeleke’s Govt. Steals N11 Billion – Reason Why We Froze Osun’s Account

Published

on

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has said it is compelled to publicly address issues pertaining to its preventive moves in freezing the bank account of the Osun State government, without prejudice to the imminent governorship election in the state.

According to the EFCC statement, “The Commission has been busy investigating the Osun state government since March, 2026, regarding alleged fraudulent handling of Ecology Funds, Intervention Funds and Federal Account Allocation Committee, FAAC account to the tune of N11, 000,000, 000(Eleven Billion Naira only). To this end, some officials of the state government, especially the Accountant General of the State, have had interview sessions with investigators of the EFCC”

EFCC said, “These ongoing investigations of the state government would not have warranted any placement of Post No Debit order on its account but for the precipitate and unwarranted movement of funds from the accounts to different suspicious accounts since August 2, 2026. The Commission noticed huge transfers of funds into different corporate entities and had to swiftly halt the trend by freezing the accounts from which such heavy funds are being moved”

“The EFCC’s preventive mandate is a public-inclined framework of safeguarding public funds, assets and resources. The Commission cannot watch idly while a state government’s account is being pillaged. While the Commission is fully aware of the impending governorship election in Osun State, it has a responsibility to act in defence of the sanctity of the funds of the state. It will be uncharitable for the Commission to allow an excuse of an upcoming election to fold its arms to perform its legally-assigned functions”

The statement added, “It is equally needful to state that the Commission is keeping watch over the finances of other states like Osun State. Many of these states are on the investigative radar of the Commission to ensure accountability and probity. The Commission has always pointed out that it is non-partisan and non-sectarian but always working in the overall interests of Nigerians. The Osun State government account was frozen to save public funds from being looted.

The public is enjoined to ignore false narratives and deliberate demonization of the works of the EFCC. The interests of all Nigerians are greater and will always be protected by the Commission” the Commission stated.

Adeleke In Tight Corner As EFCC Freezes Osun Govt. Account 10 Days To Election

Published

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has frozen an Osun State Government account domiciled with First Bank, ten days to governorship election, according to documents seen by Vanguard.

The account, reportedly used for the payment of workers’ salaries, was placed on “Post No Debit” status by the anti-graft agency.

The development came hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke alleged that the EFCC was planning to freeze the state’s accounts and those of top government officials.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor described the reported move as an attempt to cripple government activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke maintained that there was no legal basis for freezing the accounts of the state government, arguing that the EFCC lacked the statutory powers to take such action.

A source close to the governor, who requested anonymity because they were not authorised to speak publicly, confirmed to Vanguard that the account had already been frozen.

“I can confirm that the state government account has been frozen by the EFCC. It is no longer an allegation. The governor will address the press shortly to update the public on the situation,” the source said.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not issued an official statement on the development. The reason for the account restriction was also not immediately known
